Today's Candy--

And the winner is . . .

'Brokeback' leads Oscar nominations

After winning almost every major movie prize along the way, the cowboy love drama Brokeback Mountain heads into the final awards roundup with eight Oscar nominations, the most nominations of any film this year.

Even Jake got a nod for best supporting actor. But I have a question, if they are both stars of the movie how come Heath gets a best actor nod and Jake gets the supporting actor nod. Now I haven't seen the movie yet but is Heath the star of the movie or are they both stars. Please explain this to me.

Naked Paratroopers?

Army paratroopers allegedly appeared on gay porn Web site

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Army officials are investigating allegations that members of the celebrated 82nd Airborne Division appear on a gay pornography Web site, a spokeswoman said Friday.
Authorities at Fort Bragg have begun an inquiry into whether the paratroopers' actions violated the military conduct code.

Division spokeswoman Maj. Amy Hannah declined to say how many paratroopers are involved or identify their unit within the division. A defense official speaking on condition of anonymity said up to seven soldiers are involved.

According to the blogs, the site in question was ActiveDuty.com! I will have to check this one out.

Congrats Mr. Lee!

Congrats to Ang Lee for winning the Best Drama Director's Guild prize for "Brokeback Mountain"!

Come on Oscar nominations. They will be announced tomorrow morning I do believe.

Monday Candy--

Today's Candy is pretty in pink!

Brokeback Mtn No 5 this weekend--

Capitalizing on increased exposure from the Golden Globe awards, Brokeback Mountain galloped into 1,196 venues, up 513 from last weekend, and saw business grow 35 percent to an estimated $7.8 million. The cowboy love story was No. 1 from Tuesday to Thursday, and it had its highest weekend rank yet at No. 5. With $42.1 million in the till, key Oscar nominations and further expansions could propel the picture past $100 million.

Monday Morning Blahs!

Back to the work grind today and so far it is not going well. It's cold and rainy and I just want to g0 back home and crawl back under the covers. Come on 5:00 already!

Friday Candy--

Another hot pic of fellow Georgian, Rusty Joiner from his latest spread in DNA magazine. Ooh la la!

GoodBye Common Sense!

(Thanks to my good friend Peter for sharing this with me. It is so true in this day and time.)

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense. Mr.Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).

His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place- Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended fromschool for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandmentsbecame contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received bettertreatment than their victims. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner

Only in NYC--

Thanks to a fellow blogger for turning me on to this site. I love those artsy fartsy peeps in NYC who continue to amaze me with their creativity.

Seems they printed out these empty bubbles and placed 30,000 of them all over Ads in NYC and then came back and photographed what regular New Yorkers had written in the blank bubbles. Great fun, check out the site by clicking the bubble ->

I bet the funkybrown stolie has seen some of these in person, for sure!

Hump Day Candy--

I keep stumbling onto photos of this cutie on the web.

He's definitely worth posting again.

Brokeback Mountain takes Best Picture/Drama
and
Best Director, Ang Lee
and
Best Screenplay

Best Song

4 out of 7 is pretty good I would have to say!

Also congrats to those Housewives for winning Best Comedy even though all four were beat out by suburban drug dealing mom, Mary Louise Parker in the Best Actress Category.

Congrats to Felicity Huffman for taking Best Actress for TransAmerica.

So Gay!

After watching the final scene between Isaac Mizrahi and Ryan Seacrest on E!"s coverage of the Golden Globes red carpet, it is now official! At least in my mind! Ryan is a big ole' queen!

Globe Trotting--

Tonight I have a pizza in the oven and am getting ready to settle in for the evening. It's good that it is a damp cool rainy night. Perfect for watching the Tube.

I can almost feel the excitement beginning to build. Got the E! Channel going getting ready to watch the hotties walk the red carpet.

Yep, I will be watching the Golden Globes on NBC this evening. I cannot wait to see Brokeback Mountain win Best Picture and Heath wins Best Actor. I so want this movie to win as much bling as possible so that maybe, maybe the local theatre in town that plays the usually out of mainstream movies will decide to bring "Mountain" to the NW Georgia Mountains so that I don't have to go all the way to Atlanta to see it. Sis said she and Bro-in-Law want to see it with me. I can't wait.

So watch with me and keep your fingers crossed.

Our Name is Earl (too)!

So tonight I was hanging with Bro-in-Law and the twins watching the NFL playoffs while Sis was out of town on a job adventure. And while we were preparing dinner the Bro and I were talking about our past week. Yeah, they both sucked! He proceeded to tell me how everyone went psycho on him. First my Sis, then Miss Cinnamon, and then Mr. Burns. I was like OMG! And then it hit me! Yesterday was Friday the 13th and it was getting in the way of our KARMA. I think if we give it a couple of days the universe will right itself and all will be well with all of us and all of our friends. If not, then everyone needs to be very afraid!

LMAO--

The live broadcast of Will & Grace tonight was funny as shit! I laughed my ass off, literally! It was the perfect mix of situational and physical comedy. And Just Jack did his best to crack them up and finally did. It was hysterical! I am gonna miss this show after it's finale this year. Besides, it has been the inspiration of several Thursday evening posts here.

London Baby--

Ang Lee's critically acclaimed 'Brokeback Mountain' was a massive hit in London cinemas over the weekend, opening at number one with a massive £306,725 haul.

The well-received western, which stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal as two cowboys who embark on a doomed love affair, is favourite to pick up a plethora of high-profile awards over the next few weeks, so expect it to keep the multiplexes full for the foreseeable future.

Hump Day Candy--

Today's Candy may look familiar. The one on the right is hottie Ricky Martin caught beach combing with a "special" friend that may or may not be his brother, personal trainer, bodyguard, etc. The blogs are abuzz about the identity of the guy sporting the cute Speedos.

I knew that Ricky would look this hot without his clothes and I was right!

When did comedy become drama?

Here I sit in front of the boob tube and I get sucked right into watching the People's Choice Awards on CBS tonight. I tried to watch something else, I really did!

There were some A-List celebrities and I love to keep up with the Hollywood pop culture scene so that when Bro-in-law asks me who that person is I can tell him! I have to do that alot. He asked who the Host was? I told him it was Craig Ferguson. He asked, "Who is that?" I shrugged before I told him he came on after David Letterman. It was kinda' funny.

So what prompted this blog entry was the fact that when they announced the nominees for best TV drama it included my favorite Sunday night guilty pleasure, "Desperate Housewives". Not comedy, but drama. When did this show that was nominated for a Best Comedy Emmy last year suddenly become a Drama?

I was confused. No wonder it didn't win. It was nominated in the wrong category.

And then at the end of the show they displayed the rules in the credits. The winners were notified in advance and who was nominated was based on a marketing survey by a marketing company no doubt somehow related to CBS/Viacom. (Most of the presenters and accepting winners were from the CBS family of networks and studios.) Hmm!

And then the final screen on the TV: Proctor and Gamble Productions.

How many of you knew that the consumer products company had such a division? (The origin of soap operas to sell laundry detergent to "Desperate Housewives".)

No wonder I feel like the corporations are slowly taking our country from us. Be afraid!

The ranting above took a slight tangent, (imagine that). The point of the post was to point out the whole manufactured Giant Marketing Awards Show that was this awards show. And it was the 39th Annual Show.

Should I laugh or cry?

More Baby Steps--

From the great blue state of Washington:

Swing vote now says he'll vote yes on state's gay civil rights bill

OLYMPIA — Republican Sen. Bill Finkbeiner today said he'd support gay rights legislation, potentially giving Democrats the votes they need to get past a decades-long blockade of the legislation by Senate Republicans.

The commitment represents an enormous boon for Democrats who've been trying to pass legislation banning discrimination based on sexual orientation for more than 20 years.

The bill has repeatedly passed the House only to be blocked by Republicans in the Senate. It died by one vote on the Senate floor last year. The measure is expected to pass the House again this year, said Rep. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, longtime sponsor of the bill.

Tuesday Candy--

There's still something to be said about "tightie whities"!

NYE Recap (finally)

So I am finally getting around to posting the NYE story. Turns out that it was tamer than I hoped. Oh, don't get me wrong. Much fun was had by all parties involved. Mr. Burns and his lovely wife came over to Sis's for a celebration dinner and party. We had Filet Mignon and Crab Legs for dinner. Lots of Cocktails were also on the party menu. We had an acoustic guitar solo and played a 3 dollar game. We toasted the ball drop with champagne and "party" favors and shot fireworks into the backyard sky. I even staged the fireworks finale extravaganza to bravos from Bro-in-Law. And then the kids went to bed and the dance party began. It lasted well past 4am!

PS: According to Gary, it was "the best new year ever!"

More NYE research--

So tonight I am over at Sis's and explain to her that I am still trying to put together the NYE post. I explain that I am still gathering incriminating evidence and she has a task for me. I need to find out why JJ's gal pal, Sam thinks that Sis is now her new best friend. It just keeps on getting more interesting by the day.

(JJ and Sam are new to us. We met them for the first time on NYE! Which makes this even more important to get the story right. Right?)

So I ask Sis what she remembers about meeting Sam that night, and she has NADA. Zilch! Zero. She tells me that she remembers being introduced to her and then not having any more contact with her all night long. And then it hits me. She wants to grow up to be just like Sis one day. It all makes sense now!

Hypocrits--

From my buddy, RedStateExile:

Now "IT" is called Pastoring

It is funny yet sad what self-hatred can do to a person, but this is all the more reason to be weary (and leery) of those who "doth protest too much."

Anti-Gay Pastor Busted For Trying To Pick Up Male Prostitute Decoy

An executive committee member of the Southern Baptist Convention was arrested on a lewdness charge for propositioning a male plainclothes policeman outside a hotel, police said.

Lonnie Latham, senior pastor at South Tulsa Baptist Church, was booked into Oklahoma County Jail Tuesday night on a misdemeanor charge of offering to engage in an act of lewdness, police Capt. Jeffrey Becker said. Latham was released on $500 bail Wednesday afternoon.

Latham, who has spoken out against homosexuality, asked the officer to join him in his hotel room for oral sex. Latham was arrested and his 2005 Mercedes (my emphasis) automobile was impounded, Becker said.

And Americablog caught this little snippet from another article:"I was set up. I was in the area pastoring to police."

....Yes, I'm sure he was and I'm sure the only reason he was on his knees was to pray for the salvation of that officer's soul! (teehee, snicker, snicker)

NYE--

New Year's Eve (NYE)

--thanks to stolie for providing the abbreviation

Anyway, I owe everyone an update of the fun we had on NYE. It may take a while to gather (or remember) the facts. I have to do some investigative journalism and check the facts with the cast and writers to see what I actually can remember myself and what "color" needs to be added by those who were there. I doubt if they remember more than me, but may provide the "fill in the blank" moments where there might be something juicy. (Continued)

Orlando Stinker--

My Tigers failed to show up for their game yesterday against the Badgers from Wisconsin and got their butts royally waxed.

Tigers' heads spinning in loss

Oh well! I am still proud of the season they had finishing 9-2 which was way above everyone's expectations. I look forward to another successful season next year.
